Re: Can't connect to PCAN-LIN config tool via USB-to-Serial

Hi Michael
We are now able to reliably connect to a new unit and a 'previously used' unit.
I'm accepting that one unit I have done a lot of testing with now seems to be faulty.
I'm happy to now call this issue 'closed'.
Thank you for your assistance and patience.
We got there eventually :)
Best ...

Re: Can't connect to PCAN-LIN config tool via USB-to-Serial

Hello, again..

5v signal from adaptor TX line converted to 12v
snap one shows 12v level pulses on the line when PCAN-LIN unit NOT connected
snap two shows this signal being reduced (clamped internally) when PCAN-LIN unit IS connected.

So at the moment, i can connect to new unit but not units ...

Re: Can't connect to PCAN-LIN config tool via USB-to-Serial

Hi,
For a reason I cannot explain the new unit has started to connect :-)
using the FTDI adaptor, with RX & TX inverted, see snap attached
output level is 5v active high at the PCAN-LIN RX line

The existing units with a configuration already inside will not connect.
I'll try again with a 12v data ...

Re: Can't connect to PCAN-LIN config tool via USB-to-Serial

Hi,

I covered this in my 12th Sept post..
---------------------------------
I've used a logic level shifter to interface my 5v signals to 12v for the PCAN-LIN.
This works OK, checked with scope, however when the PCAN-LIN box is connected it clamps the voltage at it's pins to 5v, must be some ...

Re: Can't connect to PCAN-LIN config tool via USB-to-Serial

So we now know speed is factually at 38400 but still unable to connect with a simple USB/RS232 interface, it is an FTDI, tried both inverted and non-inverted RX,TX ...

Re: Can't connect to PCAN-LIN config tool via USB-to-Serial

@m.maidhof

Thanks for your reply, however I'm still struggling.

Hi,

please use a standard USB2Serial (FTDI) with -12/12V Levels for RS232. 5V TTL Levels are not supported by PCAN-LIN

Please also use a 1:1 cable without crossing, or simply connect the PCAN-LIN directly to the USB2Serial adapter ...

Re: Can't connect to PCAN-LIN config tool via a FTDI USB ada

Hello
I cannot connect to the PCAN-LIN configuration tool
Tried two units, serial numbers 501767 & 502442
Windows 7 v6.1 SP1 64-bit
Configuration tool v3.0.8.141
FTDI USB-RS232 adaptors, tried two different ones, (also a CH340 in desperation!)
I get error message: Try to connect to port/module:21 ...
