Send a request to the ECU with a serial terminal

Post by ArakelTheDragon » Tue 15. Oct 2019, 09:25

Hi guys,

I have made my own serial terminal which can send data over the "USB" in "char" or "hex" format. I want to use it to send a message to the "ECU" and receive a response. When I send "0x22 0x40 0x09" I receive random numbers as the response "0x30 0x35....." with size about 250 bytes. Is it not a simple system, "USB -> USB to RS232 converter -> RS232 to CAN converter -> ECU" ?

I believe the "frame format" is not correct, can someone tell me the whole "frame format" that I have to send over the "USB"?

Hi,

to use our PCAN-USB under Windows please have a look on the PCANBasic API, which you can download from our support website. If you use Linux, you can use the SocketCAN driver of the kernel, or use the peak-linux-8.x chardev driver. But both systems don't use any serial commands. The PCAN-USB is not a COM interface.

How come they don't take serial commands? Its a company device, I am just using it. My serial terminal manages to connect sucessfully.

yes, but who should answer that question? There are millions of "ECUs" on the marked, so how should anybody know which version you are using.

Hi,

well, this is a PEAK System Forum, which will take care about issues with PEAK System CAN and LIN products. In your case, it will be better to ask your question in a BMW or Bosch ECU forum. We don't know such ECUs, and can't tell you anything about it.

regards

Michael
