What order to connect PCAN-USB to hardware device (radar)

Post by petersimon » Wed 20. Jan 2021, 20:58

Hello

I have installed PCAN-View and connected the PEAK PCAN-USB IPEH-002021 to my laptop (Windows 10) and the red LED is flashing. I have a radar connected to a cable (which supplies it with power) and there is a CAN female connector with 120 ohms there to connect to the PEAK PCAN-USB. I cannot find any information about the order of connecting the devices.

Starting with everything switched off, what should I do?

I need to:
- connect the CAN female connector to the PEAK PCAN-USB
- power up the radar
- power up the computer
- launch PCAN-VIew

Is that the correct order?

Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for your request.

This would be one way to run the setup.

You have to make sure, that you use the correct bitrate-settings for communication with your radar device when using
PCAN-View.

If you have tested the setup, you could report back to us, if it is working as intended.

We'll give you further assistance it case it does not.

Best Regards

Yes, thanks. It works without a problem.

The default settings were correct so I did not have to change anything.

I can see data in your PCAN-View software application being received from the radar in the RECEIVED/TRANSMIT view and I can see a TRACE and save the data.

Just for future reference, is it safe to connect and disconnect the PEAK PCAN-USB adapter when the radar and computer are both powered on?

Thank you very much.

Peter

Hello Peter,

The safest way to connect and disconnet the device will always be in an unpowered state.

Ideally if you "Hotplug" your PCAN-USB you should do that on the USB-side, not the CAN-side(D-SUB).

So disconnect/connect the PCAN-USB from the PC, do not disconnect/connect on the CAN-side if powered on.

Best Regards
