PCAN FD is supported by ODIS as VCI?

Post by HugoM » Mon 27. Apr 2020, 18:51

Hello everybody,

I have been working a little with PCAN tools and Offboard Diagnostics Information System Engineering. However I did not try to join them together, because I always worked with the VN16XX family (neither VAS I handled).

I am looking for the possibility of buy some of them to my team if I could confirm to connect them with ODIS easily.

From the information I gathered through the network:

1. ODIS engineering tool support VCI interfaces that handle "passthru", based on the SAE J2534 standard as mentioned here and more places >>

2. PEAK system informs that its HW can support SAE J2534 and even have an API available >> https://www.peak-system.com/PCAN-PassTh ... .html?&L=1

3. Here you check and how to change VCI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PA07s9nMADs >> My worry is about if PCAN FD can be detected and if it does if I have to perform any kind of internal configuration into ODIS in order to detect.

Conclussion: Seems like it could work, anyone tried?

Or if the technical team from PEAK could confirm this information. If PCAN FD is valid to connect with ODIS Engineering and the process to connect the first time?

Thanks in advance! :D

Hello,

Thank your for your request.

This should probably work, although we cannot guarantee it.

We don't have the software and cannot test this.

Thanks for understanding!

Hello Mr. Heidemann,

Thanks for your quick answer.

Just to clarify myself, with an example,

if I "just" connect your HW with ODIS, in order to apply the SAE J2534 standard. Would I need to install any of your DLLs provided from your APIs?

Or the tool in this case ODIS due it is using the standard will detect your Devices as an VCI (Vehicle Communicatio Interface)?

I will receive ODIS E on the next days and will try!

Thanks in advance!

Hello Hugo,

To use a PCAN-USB with SAE J2534 you`ll need to install the driver for the PCAN-USB FD first:

https://www.peak-system.com/quick/DrvSetup

And you'll need to install the PCAN-PassThru:

https://www.peak-system.com/fileadmin/m ... ssThru.zip

And configure it using PCAN-PassThru-Configuration.

Apart from this, nothing else should be required.

Hello,

I also have a similar case regarding connecting the PCAN FD interface via PassThru to the ODIS service and engineering diagnostic programs (OEM VW group diagnostic softw.). The software has its own application J2534 driver built in and allows connection of similar devices supporting this protocol and recognized the PCAN FD. I have installed the drivers and the application in the way you recommended, but I am unable to connect it to the program. Is it possible to suggest a working solution. Thanks in advance,

Best regards,

Emil

Hi,

as already stated by email, please contact the manufacturer of the ODIS software, we don't know this tool.

regards

Michael
