Wiring and connection PCAN-LIN: RS-232

Post by Marian.Varga » Thu 11. Feb 2021, 09:07

Hello everybody,
I have a few question about connection PCAN-LIN via RS232.

1. Is PCAN-LIN compatible with SIEMENS PLC SIMATIC S7-300? (RS-232 module)

2.What about secound side of PCAN-LIN, another D-SUB 9-pin, male? I dont know where should I connect.

3.Need I a LIN master or slave for my application?

Thank you for your answers.
Regards

Marián

Hello Marian,

Thank you for your request.

1. PCAN-LIN can, with the right configuration, relay messages from RS-232 to LIN and vice versa and
is compatible with other RS-232 devices.

2. The PIN-Out of the male D-SUB connector can be seen on the product page for PCAN-LIN, as well as in the PCAN-LIN
documentation (chapter 2.1 - D-Sub Male Connector for LIN, CAN, and Voltage Supply) :

Please make sure to follow the information given in the manual for PCAN-LIN.

3. This depends on your application, the PCAN-LIN can act as both a LIn-Master and LIN-Slave (AS described in the PCAN-LIN Documentation,
chapter 5 - Configuration Examples),
it depends on which other LIN-Node is present in your setup and which type of LIN-Node it is configured as.
For further examples on how to configure the PCAN-LIN for your needs, please sse this post by my colleague M.Maidhof:

Hello,

Thank you for your response.

Small intro for my application:
I am checking an airbag, as final product.

So, D-SUB 9 pin female (RS-232) I will connect to RS-232 device (PLC RS-232 module) and D-SUB 9 pin male I will connect to final product (airbag).
I am right?

Thank you for your answers.
Regards

Marián

Hello,

The female side of the PCAN-LIN Connects to RS-232 and the male side connects to CAN and LIN respectively,
Please check the documentation that has been provided.

So if the airbag is either a LIN or CAN- Node then yes, it will connect to the male connector side of PCAN-LIN

Best Regards

Marvin
