Hi,
I have a Mix 3 motherboard and I want to flash the CANOpen fiwmare. I see that it is said that CANOpen firmwares are normally used with the evaluation board but is it not possible to flash it now with PEAK-FLASH directly?
Thank you for your help.
Flash CANOpen firmware with PEAK-Flash and Mix 3
Re: Flash CANOpen firmware with PEAK-Flash and Mix 3
Hello,
If you have a MicroMod with standard Firmware, you can flash the CANOpen-Firmware in the same way you would flash a MicroMod Firmware update, except that you have to specify the CANopen firmware file. (The latest standard firmware is always emebedded into the Flash tool)
Once the CANopen Firmware is flashed, you cannot use PEAK-Flash to return to the standard firmware, because the CANopen-Firmware does not support the required flash tool. In this case it is required to plug the MicroMod onto the Evalboard and use a serial connection to flash MicroMod again (either another CANopen Firmware or the standard firmware)

Re: Flash CANOpen firmware with PEAK-Flash and Mix 3
Okay, thanks. And basically, when you buy the PCAN-MicroMod Mix 3, is there a firmware already flashed? How can we check it?
Re: Flash CANOpen firmware with PEAK-Flash and Mix 3
And is it really necessary to have the evolution card to flash? Because from what I understand, the serial port is used for flashing and on the datasheet of the Mix 3 motherboard there are the Rxd and Txd pins available. Are they not enough to flash?

As Gunnar wrote - if you buy the units, they come with our Standard Firmware.
You could then easy flash the CANopen Firmware via CAN
BUT - you could not go back to the Standard Firmware, because the CANopen Firmware use a differnt Bootloader (this Firmware is from EmSA not from PEAK!)
You need a EVAL Board to Flash with the NXP Tools the PEAK original Firmware back.
The question is, if you made your choice to use the CANopen Firmware - then do it and all is fine.
If you do not want to use the CANopen Firmware- simply leave the Module as it is and use our Config Tool.
And yes, you also could build a own cabeles etc. for flash a MM-CPU via RS232 without our boards and Tools - but we do not offer any support for that.
As the Eval Baseboard schematic is part of the manual, it is not so hard to see how to setup it, if you could read a schematic.
