pcanview in listen-only does not work

Post by freddy.ben-zeev » Fri 14. Jun 2024, 20:29

I'm running pcanview on Ubuntu 20.04. When I run it without "listen only mode", with a pcanview.xmt file (with a couple of messages), it works just fine. But - if I enable in settings (during startup) the listen-only mode, with a different device generating messages, the Rx windows remains empty. When I do the same on the Windows PCAN-View it works just fine.

Any idea how to monitor the messages on my Ubuntu (the Windows system is not always there...)

Hi,

which PCAN hardware do you use? Which driver version is installed? Do you have a third CAN node available which will ack the messages, when you work with pcanview in LO mode? If you have only 2 CAN nodes, where one is in LO mode, all frames will not be acknowledged and the sender will repeat the same message again and again.

regards

Michael

Hi,

please also note that in LO mode, pcanview won't send out any frames of your xmt file.

Hi Michael,

I am using PEAK PCAN-USB adapter. The driver version is 8.15.2 (peak-linux-driver). The pcanview is version "PCANView v0.9.3-2-gd2f361a for pcan driver >= v8.x".
There are a few devices on the bus sending, terminating, and receiving messages. The system is working. I want to use the pcanview just to monitor the activity. And of course that in LO mode it won't send anything - this is the meaning of LO.

As I said - this problem is only on Linux. When I run on Windows PCAN-View it works fine monitoring all the messages.

Hi,

Could you download the last version of the Linux PCAN driver from https://www.peak-system.com/quick/PCAN-Linux-Driver please?

Running pcanview connected to a PCAN-USB device which is set in LO mode works as it should:
