Bluescreen when using the PCAN-miniPCIe FD (4 CAN version)

Post by BenDie » Thu 22. Aug 2019, 17:56

I am doing a test with a PCAN-miniPCIe FD (4 CAN Lines) and currently only use 2 of them. The card shows up in the PCAN Nets Configurator and i can set the nets i need without any issue. To communicate with our hardware I use a client that was self developed and already used in the past without a problem (PCAN-USB for 1 CAN Line). We switched to the PCAN-miniPCIe FD to have 4 CAN lines available for testing (even want to extend it to 8 with a second card), also to have the PCAN Hardware inside of the case.

This is the Mainboard I use: https://sp.ts.fujitsu.com/dmsp/Publicat ... 3598-B.pdf

The SUB-D plug was modified to match the test setup i use and it looks like this:

So 2 CAN lines end up on one SUB-D Plug with a common GND (to my knowledge the standard is that that each CAN line has a seperate SUB-D plug).

Whenever I try to use the PCAN-miniPCIe FD I get a Bluescreen with a NMI_HARDWARE_FAILURE. The Bluescreen can appear after 5 seconds or after 7 minutes.

I tried reinstalling the driver, but that did not help.
I installed the newest chip driver for the Motherboard, but that did not help.

I tried the same test with the PCAN-M.2 (4 CAN Lines) with the same result.
When i use the PCAN-USB Pro FD there is no problem.

Best regards,
Ben

Hi,

looks like a BIOS/IRQ problem. Can you please check if a newer BIOS is available for that PC system? Please be sure to use the latest driver version from our support website: https://www.peak-system.com/quick/DrvSetup

Hello Michael,

thanks for the reply. I installed the newest BIOS, motherboard drivers and PCAN Drivers.

These are the settings that i have in the BIOS:

When i select any except the Auto it works for longer, but eventually i get a bluescreen. Also when i just had the M2 Card it worked for +10 hours without a problem.

I use a PCAN-miniPCIe FD together with a PCAN-M.2, can this cause a problem when these are used at the same time?

The setup i use has Windows 10 Version 1703, its not the most recent windows version.

Then i check the msinfo i find the 2 Peak cards here:

Hi,

using a PCAN-miniPCIe FD and a PCAN-M.2 card on one system should not be a problem, as long as the mainboard supports those two slots independently. I think it will also be a good idea to update to the latest Windows 10 19.03 version.

Hey,

i have updated to the latest windows version(1903), installed the newest BIOS, chip set, peak drivers and also graphics driver.

The situation has not changed, when i start the client it connects to the hardware as expected over CAN, then the data gets sent to the hardware and i get data back. But 5 to 10 seconds later i get a bluescreen. I tried all the different settings in BIOS and switching between the PCAN-miniPCIe FD and PCAN-M.2 cards, having either one of them or both in the computer and use them to connect to my hardware.

Also when the Bluescreen happens the fans go to 100% speed and the computer does not turn off on its own.

When i check my windows dumps with "WhoCrashed" it tells me the error happened in hal.dll and pshed.dll.

Best regards,
Ben

Hi,

hm, very strange. If the BSOD will not be caused by the PCAN_PCI driver, we are no able to debug the problem by installing a debug driver. For me this looks like a memory hardware problem on your board, and as soon as our driver allocates memory in the kernel, the system crashes. Please exchange your memory or check the settings for the same.

Hey,

what kind of RAM (Brand/Size/Speed) do you recommend or which give the least trouble?

Could i get the debug driver and give it a go never the less just to be sure?

Best regards,
Ben

Hi,

we can't tell you this. You must ask the manufacturer of your mainboard.

Regarding debug driver: as long as the pcan driver is not seen as cause of the BSOD on your bluescreen, a debug driver will make no sense. But we can also send you a debug driver, if you really want it. Please contact us by email (support) with reference to this thread, and tell us your Windows version (32/64bit, Win7, 8.1, 10).

regards

Michael
