PCAN View display for half transmitted message

Post by Sayali_C » Thu 28. Aug 2025, 07:00

Hello,
we have one query regarding PCAN view display for incomplete address claim message transmission

Detail Explanation:
1. Please find following log from Pico scope for incomplete address claim message transmission
Buffer Number Packet Start Time End Time ID RTR FDF DLC Data CRC ACK CRC Valid Bit Stuffing Valid Valid IDE
1 1 -0.305388112 -0.305124112 18EEFF02 1 1 C 0 0 0 1

2. For the above same frame PCAN View is showing as: -
Message Number
; | Time Offset (ms)
; | | Type
; | | | ID (hex)
; | | | | Data Length
; | | | | | Data Bytes (hex) ...
; | | | | | |
;---+-- ----+---- --+-- ----+--- + -+ -- -- -- -- -- -- --
1) 42496.2 Rx 18EEFF02 8 RTR

As our code is not sending any RTR message but due to some certain condition, incomplete message transmission we are getting above logs from PCAN view and Picoscope.
Picoscope is showing as RTR=1, DLC =C ,No data, CRC and ACK and Invalid CRC for frame, but instead of discarding it, PCAN-View showing that frame as RTR.
Can you please let us know your input on these logs? Is there anything we need to look into PCAN-View configuration?

Additional Information on the previous query: -
1. When we change code and wait for CAN till message completion then we don't observe RTR for 18EEFF02 address claim message but instead of that we observe the complete and correct 18EEFF02 address claim message (for both PCAN-View and Pico scope).

2.Pico scope giving following details in RTR case (one more time giving it here because in previous query it was not properly pasted from log): -
ID :- 18EEFF02
RTR:- 1
DLC:- C
No/Blank info for following fields:- Data, CRC, Ack
CRC Valid :- 0
Bit Stuffing:- 0
Valid :- 0
IDE:- 1
Please let me know if I need to share any details and If I am missing something in PCAN configuration.
So the same question as previous, why PCAN is not discarding this incomplete message having invalid CRC but instead showing it as RTR frame, am I missing something in PCAN configuration?
Could please help me to understand on this?
