Read & transmit can messages

Post by Soluelec » Fri 23. Sep 2016, 09:11

Good morning.

I want to read can-bus messages by OBD connector in a car/bus/truck and replay them to different units in test bench.

For example. I want to read can messages from OBD connector and later transmit them to the instrument cluster on the test bench for repairing purposes.

Is this possible with PCAN-trace + PCAN-usb?

I have made several tests without success and don´t know if the problem is hardware/ software configuration or is not the right way to do it.

Thank you very much.

Have a nice day¡¡¡

Hello,

in principle it should be possible this way. But you have to modify the trace first, and remove all messages which will be transmitted by your instrument cluster. When the same CAN IDs will be transmitted by different CAN nodes, it will cause an arbitration crash on the CAN. Please also terminate your CAN cables with 120 Ohms, when you only use the instrument cluster and PCAN-USB on your test bench.

Thank you for your fast answer Michael.

Please, can you tell me how can I identify wich ID are instrument cluster answers to remove them?
Is there any tutorial who teaches how to identify wich unit corresponds each message?

I have PCAN-Explorer 5 maybe can help me.

Kindest Regards.

Hi,

this is depending on your CAN system. You have to get this info from the car manufacturer. This will be different for each manufacturer and type of car! We don´t have any information about this, we can only tell you what is necessary to let a CAN bus system work correctly.
