I am trying to get a low speed GMLAN 33.33Kbps message going using the PCAN USB and the AUX5790.

Help, I am trying to use a USB to Can convertor with a AUX5790. I am confused about ground. I need to add the 5V input to pin 1 using a power supply. Do I let that 5V float. and use pin 3 and 6 as pass through grounds from the USB transceiver. The same as using pins 2 and 7 as pass through from the CanL and Can H. So I made a cable where pins 2/3/6 and 7 are pass throughs and added a 5V power supply to pin 1. I set up my PCAN viewer to send messages at 33.33 Kbps but I keep getting a CAN Heavy message in the viewer.

We designed the PCAN-USB and the AU5790 Converter to work together. So please read the manual of the USB Interface and see in section 3.2 Supplying External Devices via the CAN Connector There you see how to solder a bridge, so that the PCAN-USB could supply the AU5790 directly by using Pin 1 for 5V, Pin 6/3 for GND (they are bridged). After that you simply need to connect tha AU5790 to the PCAN-USB Device and it is powered.
For any other CAN Interfcae you need to supply the unit with 5V (PIN1) and GND(PIN6 or 3)
When the 5-Volt supply is active, the red LED on the PCAN-AU5790 is on.

For use the AU5790 with 33.3k:
Switch position: Middle
Mode: Normal
Description: Up to 33.3 kbit/s, with waveshaping

In PCAN-View select the 33.3K Baudrate (BTR0/BTR1: 8B2Fh)

My problem turned out to be the 9 pin cable between the AUX5790 and the National Instrument CAN system.

They use pin 7 for the CAN signal while PEAK uses pin 5. Grounds were on pin 3.

I mistakenly thought it was a standard. So This works well with a PEAK USB CAN adapter when I added my own 5V power supply. Thanks for this easy solution ( AUX 5790) to a problem I needed to address.

The PIN 7 for CAN-H on a HighSpeed CAN is Standard - so the NI card and aslo our CAN-High Speed Interfaces are correct. But for LowSpeed CAN we use a differnt PIN to protect the units. If customer connect HighSpeed and LowSpeed CAN together with the PIN 5 for the CAN SIgnal we are safe.
