Passive Error when connects to a FT CANdevice

Post by charlesggg » Tue 31. May 2016, 16:28

Hi:
Tried to connect a PCAN-USB Pro FD to a fault tolerant CAN salve, all what "PCAN-view" pick up is error message, with status as "Error Passive" and bus load is at 92.4% constant. Seem to only have "Error Frame" on the network and nothing else.
I have tried to turn the ISO mode ON&OFF using the "PCAN-USB Pro FD" unit but still not working.
When I changed the unit to your product "PCAN-USB Pro", the error message disappeared and system works fine.
Note: I used your adaptor PCAN-TJA1054 to connect to the FT slave in both cases.
Any suggestion? Thought the "Pro FD" model shall behave the same as the old "Pro" unit.
thanks.

Does you made the changes in the PCAN-USB Pro FD for the needed external Power Supply of the TJA1054?

I have. The power light on the TJA1054 is showing active "power".
See attached screenshot from CANview showing continuous error frames.

You have a physical CAN Problem!
- Check Termination
- Check cable
- Check the Baudrate (keep in mind CAN-FD Controllers have a complete differnet timing!!)
Using the deafult 50k does not guaranty that it is the same 50K from a CAN2.0A/CAN2.0B SJA1000 controller

I have checked termination and cable, both definitely are fine. The fault tolerant slave device has default speed of 50k.it is based on CiA443 which is a subsea instrumentation standard. What I also noticed is that when I plugged in another vendor's sensor (also based on CiA443) it works fine with Pro FD. Do you think it could be an issue with the slave device? Any suggestion on what I should check on that side?

Check which exact timing the CiA443 is using. When using one of the new CAN-FD Adapters, please generate a NET (to connect the CAN Open Tool to the CAN-FD Hardware) with The NetCfg whith the following definitions:

1. Use the 24MHz Clock Frequenz
2. Set Prescaler to 24 (3 times more as using a 8MHz SJA1000 - see USB-Pro Net Definitions you used in the past)
3. set tseq1 to 16, tseq2 to 3 and Sync to 2

than you have defined the Bit Rate of 50KBit/s with a sample point of 85% , Tq of 1µs and Time Qquanta of 20.

The CiA443 does NOT suppoirt FD Frames! The CiA443 is based on ISO 11898-3:2006, that specifies low-speed, fault-tolerant Transceivers. So please be sure that you have NOT selected CAN FD in the NetCfg (see red arrow).

Please try again, and if you still have problems, send us all information you could offer to our support@peak-system.com E-Mail. We will then try to setup your used environment in our office.
