Multiple PCAN-USB Adapter on one Computer

Post by norbert.thek » Tue 25. Jul 2017, 16:05

Hello

we are using up to 4 PCAN-USB adapter on one Notebook and each of this is accessed by up to 3 different processes (for different frequencies implemented via PCAN-Developer 3 API)

The problem is that often the initialising of the adapter fails... (about 1 out of 4 Times)
Somtimes we have to restart several times until it works...

When using with PCI-Card (PCAN-PCI Express FD) This works fine
without problems.
On the other side, if using a USB Hub the problem becomes worse (3 out of 4 times it fails)

Is there a known issue if using multiple PCAN-USB Adapter?

Regards
Norbert

Hi,

can you use the devices with PCAN-View? What is the state of the LED of the PCAN-USB modules in that moment? Do you use an USB3 hostcontroller? If yes, please check your chipset drivers for USB for a newer version.

regards

Michael

Hi, the answer for the questions. When there was a failure:
In PCAN-View, some blocks were connected and then suddenly all nets and usb disapeared. only a few blocks were left with no connection, as shown in the picture uploaded.
The LED could flash at first then also suddenly stoped to flash.
Sometimes I use USB3 hostcontroller( I didn't take notice of this but I have tested hundred of times) and I have checked that no upgrade of driver is needed.

Best regards,
Kailin

Hi,

is the PCAN-USB still available in the DeviceManager in that moment? This looks like an USB related problem. Do you use any USB extension cables or unpowered USB Hubs? Will the PCAN-USB work again, when you remove and replug it to the USB port? Which driver version for PCAN-USB do you use on your system? Can you please tell me the serialnumbers of the used PCAN-USB devices (you could send those information also by email, using our support email address)

regards

Michael
