PCAN-MicroMod Config not finding device

I have a MicroMod Digital 2 and an Analog 2 module. When I hook up the CAN bus from the PCAN USB adapter to a module, I can see the module transmitting data. I tell the Configuration software to find the modules on the bus and it fails. I can see the message going out on the bus @ 0x7E7. If I duplicate the 0x7E7 message, by using the PCAN View software, the module will respond and the Configuration software will see two modules instead of one. I can then select the module and tell the software to read the modules configuration. I can see the bus traffic via the trace mode of the PCAN View software. After reading the configuration, I will get an error that the configuration was not read successfully. The CAN bus has termination resistors at both ends; the PCAN USB adapter at one end and the module at the other end. Both the Digital and Analog modules fail/perform the same way.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks,
Eldon

Hi,

if you connect several PCAN-MicroMod modules on the same CAN bus system, you have to set different module numbers (soldering jumpers) on the modules, otherwise they will respond with the same IDs, which will cause the effect you have seen. As a workaround, simply connect only one MicroMod on your CAN bus for configuration. See MicroMod manual on page 7 for more details.

Micheal,

Thanks for the response but I only have one module on the bus at a time. As stated, the problem is when the configuration software polls the bus, the module does not respond. If I send the polling command via PCAN View, the module will respond.

Hi,

which version of the MicroMod Configuration Tool do you use? Did you change any timeout settings in the options?

Michael

Michael,

The version on MicroMod Config is 2.5.7.63. I have not changed any settings. One other thing to note is under the Options-Hardware Tab, the PCAN USB device shows up twice but only the first one works.

The "Read Configuration" sends out the 0x7E7 command but the module never replies. If I send out the 0x7E7 command while the "Read Configuration" is waiting for a response, the module will reply.

Hi,

which driver version do you use for PCAN-USB? When using Windows 7, please check for the latest USB chipset drivers when using USB3. There are known issues with older USB3 chipset drivers.

Michael,

The PCAN-USB driver is V4.1.2.16115. The OS is windows 7 x64. Also, the PCAN-USB is plugged in to a USB2 port and not a USB3 port.

Hi,

please send an email to our support email address with reference to this forum post, we will send you a tool (Sysinfo) which scans your PC for all available PEAK drivers and dlls. This could be helpfull to find that problem on your system.

Just to be sure it is not a problem with your physical CAN setup, can you please test on an other PC?

regards

Michael

Michael,

The CAN bus setup works just fine because I can use the PCAN View software to monitor and write to the bus. I was able to watch the module and verify that the inputs to the module were changing. I was also able to change the status of an output on the module. When I plugged in the Analog module, I was able to see it updating at 40 Hz and sending over the analog input values.

I will submit an email to your support and proceed from there.

Thanks for the help,
Eldon

Hi,

please also install MicroMod Config Tool on a different PC, to see if it is a PC based problem only.

best regards
