Best Linux distro for PCIe FD?

Hi all -
I have a PCAN-miniPCIe FD and I'm curious if anyone has a particular preference towards a specific Linux distro for running a production system with this device.
I tried using Ubuntu 19.04 but encountered difficulties with getting the driver to behave. I stepped my system down to Ubuntu 18.04 and the driver behaves now, however system startup is slow and I still have the overhead of Ubuntu. I was thinking about loading up Debian but wanted to check in to see if anyone has a preference towards a different distro that plays nice with the drivers.
Any thoughts?
