I faced with issue when I connect to PCAN-LIN by USB to serial port converter. On PCAN-LIN apply voltage. Module blinking. By PCAN-LIN CT I connect to PCAN-LIN and get error

With what it can be connected?

From this topic it becomes clear that. RS-232 need 12V Levels. Is it a prerequisite for a correct connection?

Hello,

yes you need a real RS232 COM port to connect to the PCAN-LIN. When using an USB2Serial device, please use one with FTDI chipset.

All FTDI chipsets have this electrical characteristics



The FTDI device can only accept 12V signal from PCAN-LIN, or more (Receiver input voltage range +-25V), but the output signal "Transmitter output voltage swing" = +-5V.
is this a sufficient level for the PCAN-LIN module?

a standard COM port has +/-12V signals. So if you use a FTDI chip with ttl output, you have to add a MAX232 level shifter to get the +/-12V signals for the COM port. I am experiencing a similar issue regarding establishing a connection. I purchased a CableCreation USB to RS232 Serial Adapter (FTDI Chip) cable from Amazon to power the LIN via a laptop and have no LED indication. I have experiencing using CAN/LIN, but new to setting up LIN communication from scratch, so please excuse any ignorance. Drivers for the cable, FTDI, and module have been installed.

This is in regard to the PCAN-LIN Interface (high-speed CAN) module.

did you supply the PCAN-LIN module with the 8-18V? Do you see the red and green LED of the PCAN-LIN light up for a second during boot up of the device?

I have not. I didn't realize it needed independent voltage apart from the laptop. This got my lights to power on via 12V, but now I am getting an error where both green lights come on, quickly go of, shows a red fault light, and turns off.

Yes, but this is the normal startup routine of PCAN-LIN. Did you keep the serial bitrate of PCAN-LIN CT to 38400?
