messages timestamp

Hi,
I developed a small c application based on the examples you provided and I'm experiencing some issues with the message timestamping between the 2 channels of the gateway. Monitoring the same bus with the 2 channels it seems I get a jitter of ms in the timestamp. With a usb FD I don't have any problem.
I tried to check with PCAN Explorer 5 to see if it's a problem of my implementation but it seems the trace doesn't work using the gateway: I get messages in receive/transmit but nothing in the trace.
thanks
michele

Hello Michele,
I assume you wrote a socket-based application?
Also, PCAN-Explorer 5 does not support CAN-FD, so if FD is used it won't trace anything.
You could use PCANview to trace instead.
In general it would help if you would elaborate a bit on your setup.
Best Regards
Marvin

Hello Marvin,
I'm sorry you are right, I didn't elaborate well. I'm connecting to a standard CAN network. My "first point" is that using the ethernet gateway it seems I'm not able to trace with standard tools: I tried on both PCAN View and PCAN Explorer. I would like to use PCAN Explorer because I can configure more than one connection and than see in the trace if the messages are coherent. Setting a connection with a standard pcan-usb fd with 2 channels everything works fine.
What sounds strange to me is that I get frames on the receive/transmit window so the connections seem to be well done.
thanks
michele

Hello michele,
Keep in mind that PCAN-USB and PCAN-USB FD differ in available clock-frequencies,
you may want to check the used sample point and maybe configure a custom bitrate to use with your PCAN-USB
that macthes the used sample point of your PCAN-USB FDs:

Please let me know if this has any effect.

Hi Marvin,
sorry I'm probably not explaing myself well. Let's restart. I have a PCAN-Ethernet Gateway connected to a CAN network. I configured it and I set it on PCAN Explorer 5. In the reveive/transmit window I see the CAN messages but if I try to do a trace it doens't work .. why? Using a PCAN-USB PRO everything works fine. Is the trace disable using the gateway?
thanks
Michele

Hi Michele,
Sorry to be super specific but are you connected via a PCAN-Virtual Gateway?
I am looking for the second "PCAN" client to be involved here...
Can you confirm?
Best Regards
Marvin

Hi yes,
I use PCAN-Virtual Gateway to connect to the Ethernet Gateway.
thanks

Ah!
Now that makes more sense!
Would you be so kind as to send us both your config files for your virtual and physical PCAN-Ethernet Gateway FD DR?
ideally send us an email: suport[at]peak-system.com
We can go more in depth and you don't need to share files in public.
I'll be there to answer you via email.
Best Regards
