With which tool can I record automatically data?

Is it possible to record automatically every received data from the device and using theterminal in the same time?

To have the root privilege, I just need to write "sudo make all", don't I?
Concerning the "what to do" part, I think I forget anything and for the step by step I tried twice.

I am interrested in step3 but there is an error message when I run "make all" in pcanview.

The error is :

Makefile:104: recipe for target 'pcanview' failed
make:*** [pcanview] Error 1

Hello,
I am new in this forum. I have a Raspberry pi 3. I use correctly the driver and display data from the device with cat dev/pcan32
But I would like to know : could I record the data from the device connected with the PCAN-usb?
