PCAN-Wireless Gateway and J1939

Post by nbland104 » Tue 14. Apr 2020, 20:42

There doesn't seem to be any topics covering this. If I wanted to extend my J1939 can network over ethernet would the PCAN-Wireless Gateway support this? I cannot seem to find any information on CAN standards supported by the gateway. The way I was hoping to set them up would be to have a network with two PCAN wireless gateways acting as a can bridge over ethernet.

The Ethernet and/or Wireless gateway simply "tunnel" CAN Frames . They do not care which High Layer protocol runs on Top of it (CANopen, J1939, ISOBus, FMS, NMEA200 etc.)
So if you use 2 WLAN Gateways you could "bridge" also a J1939 Network if your WLAN connection is stable and the quality is OK (Timeouts in the High Layer protocol)
If using J1939 (or any other protocoll wich use timeouts), we recommend to use TCP and switch of the "Delay", or use better use UDP inside the Gateways.
