Access to virtual network for Admins only?

Post by wgross » Tue 21. Dec 2021, 11:22

I've tried to connect a client to the virtual can bus network.
This failed with a error: errorText='NODRIVER ', errorCode='00000200'

I tried again by starting the app as Administrator. It worked!
I also had the impression that the PCAN tools require admin rights to display the network status correctly.

Is this an oddity with my installation or maybe with our companys IT policy or is this intended behavior of the tools?
I don't know where I should look first for the cause of this.

Hello,

This is not a known behavior to us.

The Driver Setup should be responsible to set the necessary rights
to use Nets. Maybe reinstallation of the driver would resolve this.

PCAN-Device driver:

(Make sure to check "Virtual PCAN Driver")

Also, if your application uses the registry to create it's PCAN-Net maybe
this requires elevated rights. We don't know your application and therefore can only speculate.

I've reinstalled my PCAN Dev 4 and it seems to work now without any 'RunAs Admin' used. :-)

I can't remember if I've checked the virtual network on my first install (I did now) but it worked to connect as an Admin.

Well, never mind, look fine now :-)
Thanks!
