Multiplexer in a multiplexer

Post by CTreffler » Mon 8. Aug 2022, 08:52

Hello,

It was already stated here that multiplexers inside multiplexers are currently not possible.

I'd really like to have the possibility of cascaded multiplexers. This would e.g. be handy in analyzing CANopen messages, where ...
  • already the first byte provides info about type of message and then number of valid data bytes
  • after type of message in the next bytes there is index and subindex
So for CANopen I could already make use of a multiplexer in a multiplexer in a multiplexer.

But I would not use this feature for CANopen only. In my development work I frequently whish that cascading multiplexers would be possible.

Best regards,
Christian Treffler

As you wrote - the current PCAN-Explorer 6 do not allow Multiplexers inside a Multiplexer.
This feature will be available in the PE7 - but alo not unlimtedt in cascading.
If you think about it - it does not make many sense to use this complex type of Data Structure inside a CAN Protocol.
There are so many IDs available that a normal multiplexing is more as enough when creating a own Protocol/Database for own Systems (not CANopen etc.)

In prinzipial we recommend for CANopen not the PCAN-Explorer Tool.
For CANopen use the CANopen Magic Tools from our sister company EmSA
All this Tools work fine with all PEAK-System PC Adapters/ Interfaces

Thank you for the information.
When will PE7 be available and will there be a free upgrade for PE6 users?

A little recommendation: Do not make assumptions about what makes sense for your customers.
In my case usage of the CANopen Magic Tools would not make sense for my company. We have so many developers using CAN-analysis software that the price of the software would not be seen small by management.
And we are developing systems using up to 8 CAN-buses simultaniously, only 2 of which are CANopen. We need to analyze these systems as a whole. I'm sure that having to synchronize two different software packages for that purpose will not be easy.

The PE "7" is a completly new development and will be available 2023.
How we will handle upgrades from PE6 Versions to PE7 is not defined at the moment.
The PE6 is now 6 years available, with many, many free updates. And in the past our license was based on the main Version
"buy it once get free updates" as long as the main version is available.
The PE7 will be differnet in licening - more info will be availbel when we start to release the Tool, and a technical Forum is not the place to discuss this thinks...
A little recommendation: Do not make assumptions about what makes sense for your customers.
We are in a public forum, where everyone can voice his own opinion. If you want a different kind of support then send us an e-mail via your company account to support[at]peak-system.com
We do only B2B, so we need with License Information, company name etc. But we write here what we feel is OK - just like you do it.
That's why I don't think you have to recommend us here what we should write in a public forum as moderators !
