Problem connecting the 'PLIN-USB': V_Bat error

Post by Simon H. » Tue 11. Oct 2022, 10:28

Hello,

I have trouble connecting the 'PLIN-USB'-Interface with my LIN-Bus. If I want to connect the interface to the bus, no connection can be detected. The program itself shows the error 'Hardware: V_Bat missing'.

My setup (see also: attached images):
- Motor (connected to power supply + LIN-Bus)
- PLIN-USB connected via (split) D-Sub-Adapter (Out: D-Sub signal + Banana-Plugs for: LIN, Voltage + (V_Bat), Voltage - (GND))

To check, whether or not the problem lies in splitting the signal from the D-Sub-Plug, I connected the USB-Interface through soldering banana plugs to pin 9 (V_Bat) and pin 5 (GND) of the outgoing D-Sub-Plug. I did measure the voltage at 12V (V_Bat) and 0V (GND) directly at the solder points; still, 'Plin-View-Pro' shows the aforementioned error.

Infos: Firmware Version: 1.2.0 (PLIN-USB)

I'm new to LIN-Bus, so please forgive any 'beginner mistakes'. I hope you can help me out.

Best regards

Simon H.

Hi,

what about the LIN line on pin 4 of the D-Sub connector? Where did you connect it to? As a test: can you please disconnect the D-Sub from the PLIN-USB and check again what PLIN-View Pro will show in the status line.

Michael

Hello,

I connected the soldered D-Sub-Plug directly to the 'PLIN-USB' and was able to fix the 'V_Bat' error and connect to the LIN-Bus; it seems like the included D-Sub-Adapter is faulty (?). I checked the pin assignment and got:

For D-Sub --> Banana-Plug:
- black (GND) is connected to pin 6 --> OK
- yellow (LIN) is connected to pin 4 --> OK
- red (V_Bat) is connected to pin 1 --> Not OK, should be pin 9

For D-Sub --> D-Sub:
I didn't check the actual pin assignment, but pins 2, 3 and 7 are connected and not 5 or 6, 4 and 9.

Best regards

Hi,

looks like you have used the cable for PCAN-LIN, which has the supply on Pin1 instead of Pin9 for PLIN-USB. See info on our website for more details which cable fits to which device:

PCAN-LIN cable: https://www.peak-system.com/LIN-Connect ... .html?&L=1
PLIN-USB/PCAN-USB-Pro cable: https://www.peak-system.com/LIN-Connect ... .html?&L=1

Thank you for your help! Seems like the cables got mixed up.
