Hi, i am new to can bus and i have purchased the PCAN PCI card for my masters project at university. I am working on developing a modular manufacturing tool with intelligent distributed modules that will be connected via a can bus network.
I have attempted to connect the card to the can transceivers and then on to my micro's but i am not receiving any messages back at the PC. Is there a way to check if my hardware is all connected properly. I know with RS232 communications the TX and RX lines can be bridged and then a hardware test can be conducted as the transmitted data will be mirrored back.
I have terminated both ends of the bus, and i have previously verified that the transceivers are working as i transmitted data between two micro's via a can bus network.
Please advise.
Regards, and Thanks in advance

Re: How to test the PCI card
Dear,
you need minimum two actice CAN nodes (Modules) running with the same Baudrate and connected with a terminated cable (2x120 Ohm - one on each end) to get a communication running. You could NOT test a single CAN Node whit itself. CAN is a differential BUS the Sigbal Level is the difference between CAN-H and CAN-L.

If this is working, simply add the PCI CAN card as a third CAN node to the net, start the PCAN-View Software, select the Baudrate (be sure that the sample point is nearly the same as you select for the µC CAN nodes) and see how the two nodes communicateI have terminated both ends of the bus, and i have previously verified that the transceivers are working as i transmitted data between two micro's via a can bus network.
