J1939 and user defined messages

Post by rampinia » Mon 5. Mar 2012, 14:27

Hello,

how to specify a symbol file in a SAEJ1939 connection? Or better, how to parse user defined messages (0x18FFxxxx)?

Thanks

Hi,

when you have a J1939 connection, you can goto the properties of the connection and change the symbol file to any file you have loaded in your project. What do you mean with parse user defined messages? Some more explanation will be helpfull.

Hi,

I do the following:

1) create a new connection with J1939 option (I have the plug-in)
2) I'm able to see all the messages correctly decoded.
3) if I go to the connection property I see it is using the J1939Default.sym
4) if I change symbol file I lost the decoding of J1939 and I get my own messages decoded.

I would like to have J1939 decoded toghether with 0x18FF____ messages decoded.

How to do that?

I'm using PCANExplorer 5.2.0.754;

Thanks

Hi,

yes, when you replace the symbol file with an own symbol file you will loose the J1939 decoding. But when you just expand the existing J1939 file with your symbols the decoding will still work. There is a file called J1939Template.sym available in the PCAN-Explorer 5\samples directory, which can be used for such applications. Simply modify it to your needs, save it with a new name in your project directory and load that file in your J1939 connection as symbol file.

Ok, that what I'm already doing.

Can you explain what J1939 plug-in do? I thought it was for decoding J1939 plus your own symbol file.
Thanks,

Hi,

perhaps it will be helpfull to send us an email to support@peak-system.com with your complete project (+ traces), to understand your problem. Please send the serialnumber of your PE5 licence in your email.

The J1939 Add-In helps you to decode J1939 messages with its database, and will take care for all protocol defined features like multi packet transport protocol etc.
