Using PCAN-VIRTUAL (in PCAN-View, applications, etc.)

Post by Kamen » Thu 7. Mar 2019, 02:25

I just installed the latest OEM driver on my Windows 10 development machine:

I selected the option during the installation, so now the PCAN-VIRTUAL interface is available:

Using the control-panel applet, I can select it as "active":

However, nothing shows up in the list and all the buttons are grayed out, and - as expected - on PCAN-View I cannot connect to it:

I have a PCAN-PCI Express FD on order, but I'd like to be able to develop without hardware until it comes. What am I missing?

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

the virtual driver can only be used with applications based on the PCAN-Developer API (canapi2 or canapi4), which also uses the PCAN network system. PCANBasic don´t support the use or the vritual driver system. PCAN-View could use the virtual driver, as long as you have configured a PCAN network on the virtual driver with the NetConfiguration Tool.

Virtual driver will be usefull for PCAN-Explorer and other PCAN tools using the PCAN network system.

regards

Michael

Thank you, Michael! I thought it might be something like that. Could I get the NetConfiguration Tool or is it only part of a commercial software package? I'm only developing support for PEAK CAN interfaces, not simulating entire CAN networks or anything of the sorts.

Hi,

unfortunately, the NetConfig tool is only available with commercial software tools, like PCAN-Developer or PCAN-Explorer.

If you send us an email with your complete address details, we can send you a 30 days trialversion of PCAN-Explorer 6.

Thanks, Michael, but I will receive my actual hardware next week; I just needed something until then.

It'd be just a distraction to install and figure out a trial software for a few days. I get the hardware tomorrow.
