How to Create CAN network with PCAN USB

Post by tydix » Mon 27. Jul 2015, 11:52

Hi.

Im, new to CAN network. I have purchased PCAN USB as leraning tool.
If i want to create small CAN nertowork is it enough to add 120 Ohms resistor between CANH and CANL cables.
Plese see attached picture 1.

If I will transmit CAN messages will they be transmited on this network ? I do not have one more PCAN USB tool to check it. I have other hardware which should be able to receive CAN messages which I'm transmiting, but it is not getting anything so maybe i misunderstood something.
Picture 2 shows how hardware is connected to CAN network. I do not mix CANH and CAN L cables.

Most important for me to know is if it is enough to add 120 Ohm resistor to create CAN network or I need soemthing more

Hi,

a CAN network must have two 120 Ohm resistors between CAN-L and CAN-H (on both ends of your CAN cables).

Please check the baudrate of your connected device, you must use the same baudrate for all connected CAN nodes

regards

Michael
