Kernel OOPS of SocketCAN for PCAN-PCI/104-Express 2 Channels

Post by georgekang » Thu 9. Mar 2017, 10:25

Hi,

While I tried to enable the CAN network interface for the PCAN-PCI/104-Express, the following Kernel OOPS messages will be produced. Any suggestion about this?
Thanks a lot.

Hello,

Can you please tell us which driver are you running? Did you download our pcan driver from our website or do you run the mainline one, please?

Regards,

Stéphane

Re: Kernel OOPS of SocketCAN for PCAN-PCI/104-Express 2 Chan

Post by S.Grosjean » Fri 10. Mar 2017, 10:35

Hi,

Several things about your post:
  • you're actually running a PREEMPT_RT version of Linux (Linux version 4.4.12-rt19+), not a standard version.
  • you shouldn't have to "ip link add" the can interfaces by hand but these should be automatically registered when booting.
  • Finally, it looks like the linux-can base modules are loaded but neither are the SJA1000 (sja000.ko) nor the PEAK-System (peak_pci.ko) modules
When running a Linux system, the can devices are automatically created when booting, because the System loads the corresponding modules while enumerating the hardware.

So it looks like your board is not detected by the System.

Could you please type:

Code: Select all

$ lspci -d 001C:
Moreover, instead of using the "ip link add" command, please try:

Code: Select all

$ sudo modprobe sja1000
$ sudo modprobe peak_pci
Then, type:

Code: Select all

$ ip link show type can
Regards,

Stéphane

In fact the 4.4.12 (released 2016-06-01) did not follow recent patches applied to the Linux 4.4.y stable tree.

See the patches for CAN drivers in Linux 4.4.y:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke ... inux-4.4.y

You need to apply this patch to fix the issue in 4.4.12:

https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/ke ... 3fb3a2d2de

Oliver
