After firmware upgrade, stuck in the bootloader mode

Post by agorgeousday » Tue 3. Jul 2018, 08:58

Hi Sir,

I followed the Firmware Update Guide to do PCAN-USB Pro FD firmware upgrade on Win10. the first step must active bootloader, LEDs on the USB CAN interface flicker. A new mass storage device with a drive letter appears on Windows (USB drive) and make sure the bootloader is activated.

After the copy new firmware process is finished, I disconnect the USB CAN interface from the PC. After a few seconds, reconnect the USB CAN interface. But PCAN-USB Pro FD stuck in the bootloader mode.

Please flash first the MSD_Loader Firmware (PCAN-USB_Pro_FD__MSD_loader_upgrade.bin) as explined in the documentation page 3.2. After that you could flash the latest Firmware via Mass Storage Solution (USB Memory Stick Mode) - see Docu Section 4 / page 8+

Hi Sir,

I just bought PCAN-USB Pro FD and the Firmware version is the latest version - Version 3.2.0. There is no need for firmware upgrading, am I right ? I just wonder how to exit bootloader mode.

Hi,

yes, firmware 3.2.0 is the latest version at the moment. Please check that you have used the correct firmware version for your device, don't mix up PCAN-USB-Pro FD with PCAN-USB FD.

regards

Michael

I also found the latest firmware PCAN_USB_Pro_FD_v3.2.0__MSD.bin in product CD

The firmware size is the same. That's mean the latest firmware 3.2.0 is upgraded.

After upgrade process is finished. I followed the documentation page 4.2. and eject USB Mass Storage Device

disconnect the USB CAN interface from the PC. Wait a few seconds, reconnect the USB CAN interface. But I still in bootloader mode - several LEDs on the USB CAN interface flicker orange and CAN-Hardware not found. I just wonder how to eject "USB Mass Storage Device" and exit bootloader mode. Could you advise ?

Problem solved by following this instruction...

if the orange LED´s are flashing very fast, you are still in the bootloader mode.

Normally you also should see a USB Memory Device (take care that you use a PC which are USB Memory Devices are allowed – otherwise you could not finish the Firmware Update! Please check on a different PC)

• Check for the Memory Device
• Delete the file “firmware.bin”
• Use the latest firmware and copy it to the Device (please use Windows Copy Tools to be sure that it works!)
• Unplug the PCAN-USB Pro FD
• Plug in again – System must now come up with slow green flashing USB LED and 4 green LED on.
• Start PCAN-View – connect to one Channel – CAN Channel LED must flash slow
